IP-based SMS Interconnect
For more information on the role that TITAN can play supporting the migration of SMS traffic from the SS7 network onto an IP-based transport and addressing infrastructure, contact NetNumber’s Business Development team and request a copy of the white paper: “IP-Based SMS Interconnect”.
The solution discussed in this paper builds on the ability of NetNumber’s Transactional IP-Telephony Addressing & Numbering (TITAN) platform to provide SMS applications with access to portability-corrected service provider ID (SPID) data for use in enabling direct SMS interconnect via SMPP.
SMS Address Resolution Logic:
- An end-user sends an SMS message using a telephone number as the destination address.
- The originating SMSC or SMS Gateway server queries an on-site (or hosted) TITAN Edge server to obtain a portability-corrected service provider ID (SPID) for the dialed number. In the example below, TITAN uses the Operator’s existing source of number-block and ported number data for the local market to return a portability-corrected SPID.
- The SMS Gateway uses the portability-corrected SPID to select an appropriate route (SS7, SMPP or Intermediary) for delivering the SMS message to the destination GSM, CDMA or Fixed-line operator.
